Prophecy

The prophetic requirements

  • Preserved
  • Purified seven times
  • Will not fail
  • None shall want her mate
  • His spirit gathered them
  • Cast a lot for them
  • Divided by line
  • Passed from generation to generation

“I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.”

Psalm 138:2

“The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.”

Psalm 12:6-7

“Seek ye out of the book of the LORD, and read: no one of these shall fail, none shall want her mate: for my mouth it hath commanded, and his spirit it hath gathered them. And he hath cast the lot for them, and his hand hath divided it unto them by line: they shall possess it for ever, from generation to generation shall they dwell therein.”

Isaiah 34:16-17

God has magnified His word above all His name.

Preserved

When the manuscript evidence is laid side by side, the contrast is plain. The Received Text stream stands with roughly 5,500 Greek witnesses. The critical text tradition rests on a far smaller cluster, often cited around 45 manuscripts that dominate modern editions. The King James Bible aligns with the earliest complete Bibles and with the overwhelming mass of the Received Text witnesses. Even the critical texts, disordered as their transmission is, still bear silent witness to the purity that the King James preserves.

Having examined the criticisms levelled against the King James and the manuscript evidence that supports it, preservation is not a hope. It is a demonstrated fact.

God’s word is preserved.

Purified seven times

The purification line that matters is the Received Text line into English. Tyndale’s work begins that line. Each successive English Bible improved upon the last until the seventh purification stood complete.

Will not fail

From the days of the apostle John onward, God’s word has been under deliberate attack. The pattern is scorched earth: not merely disagreement, but the attempt to erase the words themselves and every life that carried, copied, translated or believed them. The brutality and persistence of that campaign, especially under the system that later hardened into Roman Catholicism, is unmatched in history.

Yet the manuscripts of the Received Text remain unmatched by any other book on earth. The word did not fail.

It did not fail.

None shall want her mate

Scripture often foreshadows. The immediate picture in Isaiah 34 is the creatures that will inhabit a desolate land — none lacking its mate. That language of completeness and pairing points further: to a full Scripture in which no part is missing its corresponding truth.

Before the English purification line brought Old and New Testament together in one volume for the common believer, the words of God existed in scattered portions across languages and lands. The Book of the LORD does not leave any portion wanting its mate. The whole counsel stands complete. That is the mark of inerrancy: nothing lacking, nothing left unpaired.

His spirit gathered them

The gathering of the words into one Book did not happen in a vacuum. Believers died to preserve, copy and translate what God had spoken. The attempt to exterminate both the text and everyone connected to it was among the worst campaigns of brutality the world has seen. Yet the words prevailed.

Even as the work that would produce the King James Bible was under way, the Gunpowder Plot of 1605 sought to destroy the very authority under which that work was advancing. The plot failed. It was discovered in time. The pattern is the same one history keeps repeating: scorched-earth attempts to erase God’s words, and the Spirit of God preserving them for their gathering into a single volume that would be mass-produced and carried from generation to generation.

His Spirit gathered them.

Cast a lot for them

Casting lots was an ancient practice that used marked objects to determine a course of action. For the people of God it was never treated as mere chance. The outcome was understood to rest in the Lord’s hand. The decision was final. There was no dispute once the lot was cast.

That same finality marks the work that produced the King James Bible. Multiple companies of translators, cross-checking one another under royal authority, reached settled results. The process was treated as binding. The parallel is the authority and the undisputed outcome — the lot cast, the decision standing.

Divided by line

The Book of the LORD is divided by line — separated into chapters and verses. That alone meets the plain requirement. Yet there is a further signature written inside those divisions.

Patterns run through the chapter and verse structure of the King James Bible that no human committee set out to manufacture and that no computer can invent after the fact. Those patterns confirm, on another level, that the Holy Spirit gathered the words. The same hand that preserved the text ordered its lines.

For a detailed examination of those patterns, see the work at Truth is Christ.

From generation to generation

The King James Bible has now stood for over four centuries. It has been read, preached, memorised and carried from one generation to the next without interruption. The prophecy said they shall possess it for ever, from generation to generation. That transmission is still happening.

From generation to generation. Fulfilled.

The Book of the LORD

The King James Bible meets every mark the prophecy set down. It is preserved. It is purified seven times along the Received Text line into English. It has not failed under the longest and most violent campaign ever mounted against the words of God. No part wants its mate — the Scripture stands complete. His Spirit gathered the words. The lot was cast under authority that treated the outcome as final. It is divided by line, and those lines carry a signature no man designed. It has passed from generation to generation for over four hundred years.

It is the Book of the LORD.
